Working too small.

Fri Jun 5, 2009, 9:38 PM
I've run into a stumbling block, I guess. I'm really disappointed in all the detail work I've been doing. I get the jist of the drawing, but I've hate the finishing touches. I think the problem is that I'm working on too small of a canvas. Before I took my drawing class, it never occurred to me to draw on huge paper. (Huge being relative to 8.5"x11".) However, in class, we would work 5 sketches on regular sized paper and then we'd work on poster sized paper. I can't remember exactly, but the paper was something on the order of 2'x3'. It made everything look a whole lot better when we had that huge room to work on. I think I'm gonna do that with my actual drawings... What am I gonna do with lunchtime sketches, then? I guess I'll have to turn them into actual sketches and not do so much finishing work on them.

I do have a few things in mind that I want to work on... My main in WoW has the most bad ass looking shield in game, IMO. There're a couple of old drawings of a full bodies from How To Draw Manga by ~ktcoope that I know I could have done better. [link] and [link] Plus, well, all the stuff I did for class needs to be uploaded. I'm not sure how I could possibly scan it. I'll have to ask ~jenny-zzz to take pictures, I guess.
